Dessert Pizza

Recipe From Recipe Zaar
Dough

(or you can use your favorite pizza dough recipe)
1 cup water
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 tablespoons vegetable oil
3/4 cup cake flour
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon active dry yeast (proofed in water)

Crumb topping
1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup quick oats
1/2 cup firm butter or margarine
1 teaspoon cinnamon

Vanilla glaze
2 cups confectioners' sugar
3 tablespoons milk
1 tablespoon melted margarine or butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1. Combine all crust ingredients in a mixer and knead for 10 minutes. Place in a large bowl, cover the bowl with plastic wrap and allow to ferment as long as possible (12 to 24 hours).
2. Punch down dough now and then when you get a chance.
3. Preheat oven to 550 degrees F.
4. Roll the dough as thin as desired. Roll, flour, flip and repeat until you end up with a shape equal to 90% the size of your pan, as it will stretch when you transfer the dough. Place dough on pizza stone or in pan. Brush with vegetable oil and prick with fork. Pre-bake for 3 minutes.
5. Remove from the oven and spread with cherry, blueberry or apple pie filling. If you want whole pieces of fruit with a thick topping, you will need 1 whole large can, otherwise you will need to purée half the filling if you want a thinner topping. After you have spread on the filling, you put on the crumb topping. Mix well with a fork or pastry blender. Spoon over pie filling. Use as much as you want of the topping. Put the rest in a zip-type bag in the refrigerator to save. Return pizza to the oven and continue to bake for 10 to 15 minutes or until crust is light golden brown. Remove and drizzle with Vanilla Glaze.
6. Yields one 16-inch dessert pizza. (I made two smaller pizza's)

For some reason I love Pizza Hut's Dessert Pizza. I wasn't about to go spend the money when I had everything at home to make it at home. I used my own pizza dough recipe and it tasted great. But the one provided above also looks good!

It was a hit! The whole family loved it!

Pizza Buns

I found this recipe from Colleen's Recipes, and we LOVED it!
You can find her step by step picture tutorial HERE.

DOUGH
¾ cup very warm water
½ cup sweetened condensed milk (not evaporated)
¼ cup vegetable oil
2 tablespoons sugar
1 large egg (room temperature)
3½ cups all purpose flour
2 tablespoons dry active yeast
1 teaspoon salt
"Mix the warm water (hottest out of your tap) with the sweetened condensed milk, vegetable oil and sugar and salt. The hot tap water will cool down in temperature once it is mixed with the oil and milk (so it won't hurt the yeast). Next, whisk in the egg and the yeast. Let this sit for several minutes until the yeast looks well dissolved.
NOTE: When you first mix up this dough, it will seem stiff and dense. Don't let that freak you out...just follow the instructions and it will bake up beautifully.
Once it is well dissolved, mix in the flour (using a stand mixer is easiest) and mix with dough hook on medium speed until smooth (about 5 minutes or so). Place in a bowl sprayed with vegetable spray and cover with plastic wrap. Let this sit in a warm place for an hour or until it is double in size.
Remove from the bowl and cut into 8 pieces (makes 8 sandwiches). Roll each piece out into an 8 inch circle. For pizza filling, put about ¼ cup of cheese in center of circle; top with a little pizza sauce and some toppings.
I found that these were easier to shape if you sit the 8" circle in a cereal bowl before you add the fillings. Draw up the edges of the dough and pinch them together.
This dough is a dream to work with...it stretches without tearing and sticks together beautifully when it comes time to "pinch it shut".
Cover with plastic wrap and let them sit for 20 minutes. Bake in pre-heated 350F oven for 20 minutes. When they come out of the oven, brush them with butter.
NOTE: The fully baked leftovers (full size) reheat, beautifully, in a preheated 350F oven in 20-23 minutes and taste exactly like they did the first time they came out of the oven."
-Colleen
My kids LOVED these. We've made something similar to this before. But what made these different, is the sweetness in the dough. I found a "combo" pizza with all the topping tasted the best. We also tried hot ham, cheese and broccoli, and BBQ chicken and cheese and loved them all! You have to try these!
We made the dough quick and easy by making in our bread machine on the dough cycle.

Thai Chicken Pizza

Crust
Make your favorite pizza dough recipe.

Peanut Sauce
1/4 c. creamy peanut butter
2 T. teriyaki sauce
2 T. hoisin sauce
1 T. brown sugar
2 T. water
2 t. sesame oil
1 t. soy sauce
1 1/2 t. minced onion
1 clove garlic, minced
1/2 t. crushed red pepper flakes
1 t. minced gingerroot

Toppings
1 boneless skinless chicken breast half
1 1/2 t. olive oil
1 1/4 c. grated mozzarella
2 green onions
1/2 c. bean sprouts
1/2 carrot julienned
2 t. minced cilantro
1 T. chopped peanuts

  • Prepare your pizza crust according to crust directions.
  • Mix together the ingredients for the peanut sauce in a small bowl. Pour this mixture into a food processor or blender and blend for about 15 seconds or until the garlic, onion, and ginger reduced to small particles. Pour this mixture into a small pan over medium heat and bring to a boil. Cook for 1 minute. Don't cook too long or your sauce will become lumpy.
  • Slice the chicken into bite sized pieces
  • Pour 1/3 of the peanut sauce over the chicken in a sealed container in the refrigerator and marinate for at least 2 hours.
  • Heat 1 t. of oil in a small pan over medium/high heat.
  • Cook the marinated chicken 3 to 4 minutes in the pan.
  • Roll out your pizza crust and place on the baking sheet or pizza pan. Preheat the oven to 500 degrees.
  • Spread a thin coating of the remaining peanut sauce on the pizza crust. You may have leftover sauce.
  • Sprinkle 1 c. of the grated mozzarella over the peanut sauce.
  • Slice the green onions. Spread the onions over the cheese.
  • Arrange the chicken of the pizza.
  • Next, add the bean sprouts and julienned carrots.
  • Sprinkle the leftover mozzarella just over the center of the pizza.
  • Sprinkle the cilantro over the mozzarella, then the chopped nuts on top.
  • Bake the pizza for 10-12 minutes or until the crust turns golden brown.
  • Slice the pizza.
  • Enjoy!

Mike and I made this pizza the other night for dinner. It was fabulous!! It was more work then I like to put into making pizza, but definitely worth it!

Erika's Canadian Bacon & Pineapple Pizza

1 pkg. Canadian bacon (thinly sliced)
1 can pineapple tidbits drained
Cheese, (Mozzarella and Parmesan cheese)
Pizza sauce
Pizza Crust

Make Pizza crust according to directions. Here are some good recipes for a crust:
(Papa John's Style Pizza Crust Recipe HERE)
(Homemade Pizza Crust Recipe HERE)

Make Sauce, or add store bought sauce
(Good sauce recipe HERE)

(Depending on the crust recipe you use, will depend when you add your ingredients. Some recipes you are supposed to bake for 10 minutes before adding toppings, and others you can add right away).

Add Pizza sauce to the pre made crust. Add a layer of mozzarella cheese. Add Canadian bacon slices on top. Add another layer of Mozzarella cheese. Bake. About 5 minutes before taking the pizza out of the oven, add pineapple and sprinkle Parmesan cheese and continue to bake until the pizza is done or golden brown.

Pizza Crust 2

1 Tbsp. yeast

1 1/2 cups warm water

1 tsp. sugar

4 cups flour

1 tsp. salt

2 Tbsp. Oil

In a large mixing bowl, combine yeast, warm water and sugar. Let stand for about 5 minutes or until bubbly. Add 2 cups flour, salt and oil. Stir until well blended. Add remaining flour and knead until smooth and elastic. Let dough rise until double (30-60 minutes). Roll out dough and rub a thin layer of olive oil on top and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese. Bake at 425 degrees for 10 minutes. Spread on pizza sauce and top with your favorite toppings. Bake an additional 10 minutes or until crust is light brown.

This pizza crust recipe is similar to the other "Papa John's Pizza Crust" recipe that I have posted, but the texture was completely different. This was a thick but yet light crusted pizza. It was delicious! I got this recipe from my amazing cooking cousin JADI. She said you can make 4-6 personal size pizzas with this dough or one large pizza. We made a large jelly roll pan size of pizza with it. Yum!

Papa Johns Garlic Butter Sauce

1/2 cup margarine or butter
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

Combine ingredients in a saucepan. Stir over medium heat until butter is melted and ingredients are combined

Living away from many restaurants, I find myself craving them. I always loved papa johns pizza. So we though we'd give this recipe a try. If I make this again I will use butter instead of margarine, and add a pinch more garlic powder.

Homemade Pizza Sauce

1 (10 3/4 ounce) can tomato puree
1/4 cup water
1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon olive oil
1/4 teaspoon lemon juice
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon oregano
1/8 teaspoon basil
1/8 teaspoon thyme
1/8 teaspoon garlic powder

Combine ingredients in a small saucepan over medium heat.
Bring to a boil.
Reduce heat and simmer for 15 to 20 minutes.

(Makes about a cup)(This will be enough sauce for 2 medium pizzas)

"Papa Johns" Pizza Crust

Makes 2 medium pizza crusts

2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
1 teaspoon brown sugar
1 1/2 cups warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees)
3/4 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons olive oil
3 1/2-4 cups all-purpose flour (this always varies for me)

1. In a large bowl, dissolve the yeast and brown sugar in the water, and let sit for 10 minutes.
2. Stir the salt and oil into the yeast solution. Mix in the flour.
3. Turn dough out onto a clean, well floured surface, and knead in more flour until the dough is no longer sticky. Place the dough into a well oiled bowl, and cover with a cloth. Let the dough rise until double; this should take about 1 hour. Punch down the dough, and form a tight ball. Allow the dough to relax for a minute before rolling out. Use for your favorite pizza recipe.
4. Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C). If you are baking the dough on a pizza stone, you may place your toppings on the dough, and bake immediately. If you are baking your pizza in a pan, lightly oil the pan, and let the dough rise for 15 or 20 minutes before topping and baking it.
5. Bake pizza in preheated oven, until the cheese and crust are golden brown, about 15 to 20 minutes.
I KNOW this is not the same as Papa John's, but it still tasted good. I loved the lightly crispy crust on the outside, but soft inside. Yum!

Stuffed Crust Pizza

Make your favorite Pizza dough recipe. The dough should hang over the edge of the pizza by about an inch. Add string cheese around the edge of the pan.

Fold the crust over the string cheese and seal. Bake according to your pizza crust recipe directions. Enjoy!

I know there is an authentic "Stuffed Crust Pizza" recipe out there, but we just like to use our own pizza crust recipe and add string cheese. Enjoy!...We did!
