Russian Refresher (AKA Mormon Tea)

Adapted From Rogers Family Recipes

2 c. Tang
3 oz. presweetened lemonade mix (Country Time Lemonade Drink Mix)
1 1/3 c. sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ground cloves

Mix all together and store in an airtight container.

To make: Add 4 tsp. to small cup or mug of hot water.

This resembles a mock citrus hot cider wassail (but without the work).  This is great to have on hand during the chilly fall and winter months.  We just mix it up and put in a large ziplock bag.

Homemade Hot Chocolate Mix

1 (1 lb) Bottle Coffee Creamer
1 (2 lb) can Nestles Chocolate Drink Mix
2 c. Powdered Sugar
1 (8 qt) Box Of Dry Milk (10 2/3 c.)

For Individual Servings:
Pour 1 c. boiling water over 1/4 c. of hot chocolate mix.  Stir.

(Makes about 60 c.)

Enjoy this wonderful, hot, creamy, chocolaty drink.  Be prepared to mix it in a large container, as this makes A LOT!

Erika's Homemade Egg Nog

2 eggs well beaten
1 can sweetened condensed milk
2 t. vanilla
¼ t. salt
1 T. sugar
2 quarts whole milk
2 cups heavy cream
1 (3 oz. pkg) vanilla instant pudding
3 t. nutmeg

Whip eggs, sweetened condensed milk, vanilla, salt, and nutmeg together. Next whip in cream, milk and vanilla pudding. Chill. Stir before serving.
This is a little more mild Egg nog then the recipe below.

or.....

2 eggs well beaten
1 can sweetened condensed milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
¼ teaspoon salt
1 quart whole milk
1 cup heavy cream, whipped

Combine first four ingredients. Mix or beat in blender until mixed well. Gradually stir in milk. Fold in cream. Sprinkle nutmeg on top and chill for 2-6 hours. Stir before serving.
Serves 8-10

Egg Nog was a Holiday tradition in our home. I remember thinking how could something so yummy tasting have so many eggs (which I do not like)? But this recipe we make only uses 2 eggs...and I'm o.k. with that! I hope my children will continue making this part of their family holiday tradition also!

Homemade Root Beer

4 gallons water
4 1/2 lbs. sugar
1 bottle root beer extract
5 lbs. dry ice

Add cold water to the 4 gallon mark. Next add sugar and root beer extract. Stir with a long handled spoon. Add dry ice. Let stand 30-40 minutes. Add regular ice to make it cold. This will make a full 5 gallon jug.

My favorite part of the homemade root beer is when you let the root beer sit for a few hours or over night, and all the dry ice falls to the bottom and ends up making a slush at the bottom of the jug. Yummy!

Refreshing Lemon Punch

This is a wonderfully refreshing drink. It has just the right amount of lemon and sugar. It makes a great drink for baby or wedding showers!!!

4 Quarts (1 gallon) COLD water
2 c. sugar
1 T. lemon extract
1 T. citric acid (VERY hard to find. We found ours in a health food store. Although I've heard many say they found it at a local pharmacy or home brewing store. It cost about $8 a lb. but it goes a long way).
Sliced lemons
Ice

Mix the first four ingredients together. Stir well. Add ice and sliced lemons. Enjoy!

We especially enjoy this drink on warm sunny days!

Mom's Christmas Wassail

3 1/2 c. sugar
2 qts. water

(Boil about 5 minutes and turn off heat.)

Put the next ingredients in a sack cloth, cheese cloth, or even a clean pair of nylons or knee highs! (This used to freak me out!)

2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. allspice
1 tsp. ginger

Soak the the ingredients (that you put in the cloth) into the water/sugar syrup for 1 1/2 hours.

Add:
4 qt. apple cider (pre-made)
2 qts. orange juice (mixed with water)
juice of 4 lemons (or 1/2 can lemonade concentrate..not mixed with water)

Mom would leave a few slices of lemon and let them float. Heat and serve hot.

Christmas in my house growing up brings happy memories of mom making hot wassail, Grandma Gunnersons Ginger filled cookies, sugar pops, peanut brittle, toffee, caramel popcorn, and sugar cookies. What a happy childhood I had.

This makes A LOT! So be prepared to either half the recipe, serve at a holiday party, or share with your neighbors! Enjoy!

Erika’s Strawberry-Limeade Frizz

(Drink will resemble picture)

1 can Frozen Limeade (minutemaid)

2 cups frozen strawberries

½ cup sugar

4 cans of sprite or 7-up

2 cups cold water

1 cup ice cubes

Add frozen limeade mix, strawberries, and sugar into a blender. Blend until well mixed (we don't want lumpies right?) In the meantime add cold water and sprite into a LARGE pitcher. Stir. Add frozen mixture from the blender. Stir with a large spoon. Add ice Cubes. (you can add more water to make it less sweet, however we like it STRONG). Enjoy!

I was in the mood for some type of a sweet drink. Boy did this hit the spot!! We were experimenting with ingredients and this is what we came up with. YUM-O!
